My Story

Hi! I’m Britt!

I'm a Fertility Awareness Educator and I teach women how to track their menstrual cycles for contraception or conception :)

I grew up in sunny South Africa in Johannesburg. I was very sporty growing up and was always fascinated by the body and how it worked. Fast forward to needing to choose a career for myself, and I chose to be a chiropractor. After graduation, I started my first job in my favourite place on earth – Cape Town, South Africa. It was there where I met my now husband with whom I live with in the not-so-sunny UK. I am an animal lover, chocoholic and spend all my free time educating myself, friends and clients about all there is to know about the female body and the menstrual cycle.

My hormonal story started back in 2018. I was on the pill for 7 years and after reading my first hormone educational book, “Womancode” by Alisa Vitti, I was hooked! I came off the pill that month and started tracking my cycle using an app called MyFlo. After a few months, I started with abnormal symptoms related to my menstrual cycle which included bloating, gas, horrible acne, low back pain, painful peeing and pooping when on my period, blood in my stool when on my period, cramps, painful sex and terrible mood swings. These are symptoms of endometriosis, which I was officially diagnosed with in 2022 (although I suspected it all along but was in denial). I made it my mission to heal myself naturally. I worked with numerous professionals along the way – a naturopath, a homeopath, a functional medicine doctor, several gynaecologists, chiropractors, abdominal massage therapists, psychologists, and the list goes on. I fixed my gut, cleaned up my personal care products, healed my acne, adjusted my diet (started eating animal products again), gave myself more grace and self-love, started living in sync with my cycle, and continued learning!

I initially started Cycle Centric as a passion project to share menstrual cycle awareness with the world. I chose this name because I believe our menstrual cycle should be the centre and foundation of how we live as women. I then completed a teacher training to teach the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) which is what I use to accurately track my cycle now, and teach others to do the same! I also started another course in February 2024 with Cycle Coach School, after which I’ll be a certified Menstrual Cycle Coach. At the beginning of 2024, I started a FREE private WhatsApp group to create a safe space to connect, share and support other women who crave this knowledge. Myself and other guests present workshops to the group on various topics and we occasionally meet up virtually to chat, vent, share, cry, laugh, connect and hold space for one another.

So yes, I am slightly obsessed. But this is my life’s calling and I am so driven to educate the masses about all there is to know about our menstrual cycles!

What is FAM?

FAM (Fertility Awareness Method) involves tracking your menstrual cycle to identify your fertile window and teaches you how to interpret that information to avoid or achieve pregnancy naturally. By tracking your unique fertility biomarkers - cervical mucus and basal body temperature - FAM helps you understand your body, cycles and fertility on a deeper level.

But it's not just about avoiding or achieving pregnancy - FAM can also give you insights into your overall health and help you develop a more profound connection with your body. Tracking your cycle is a great way to start recognising monthly patterns in your body, mind and spirit – that way, you know what to expect and can take better care of yourself during each phase of your cycle.

When I started tracking my cycle, I gained incredible insight into my ever-fluctuating hormone levels and started to understand why I was feeling a certain way based on what my hormones were doing.

I track my temperature with a Tempdrop overnight which then directly links to an app called Read Your Body to create a graph much like the one on this post.

FAM is different to the Rhythm/Calendar Method which is explained in more detail here.

P.S. You don’t need a Tempdrop. A normal oral thermometer works perfectly fine. I do recommend getting a basal body thermometer with 2 decimal points to ensure accuracy with charting.

Any questions about FAM? Contact me here and let’s get chatting :)
